Las Pinas was one of the earliest settlements on the shores of Manila bay and was declared a town either in the year 1762 or 1797. Its exact date or creation can not be ascertained becuase historical records vary.

Las Pinas City is divided into 20 Barangays. Like other cities in the Philippines. Las Pinas is governed by a Mayor, and a Vice Mayor they are elected to a three year term. Las Pinas City Is part of the Manila Metro Council.
